Best Rimless Aquariums for Aquascaping, by Footprint (2026)
Rimless low-iron tanks for aquascaping, grouped from nano to 60 cm and larger, with exact dimensions, volume, glass thickness, and leveling notes.

Start with the footprint you have room for, then pick a height. For a desk, the UNS 5N (36 x 22 x 22 cm) and LANDEN 30C cube (30 x 30 x 30 cm) are the small options. At 45 cm, the LANDEN 45P is the classic low shape and the UNS 45T adds height. The UNS 40C is a 40 cm cube for viewing from several sides. At 60 cm, you can choose a shallow carpet tank (UNS 60S), the classic 60 x 30 x 36 cm size (LANDEN 60P or Lifegard Crystal 17.11 gal), or a deeper and taller tank (UNS 60T, LANDEN 60H). None of these list a lid as included.
Who this guide is for
This guide is for aquascapers buying a low-iron rimless tank who want exact sizes before planning hardscape, lighting and a stand. Without a top frame, a rimless tank depends on the glass, the silicone, and an evenly supported base. Our rimless aquarium buying guide explains glass thickness relative to height, leveling mats, stand load ratings, and what to inspect when the tank arrives.
These tanks suit both low-tech and CO2-injected setups. The main thing that changes with your choice is height. A taller tank needs a stronger light to reach plants at the substrate. A shallow tank leaves less room for filter intakes and heaters.

The UNS 5N measures 36 x 22 x 22 cm (14.17 x 8.66 x 8.66 in) and holds 17.4 L (4.6 US gal), with 5 mm low-iron glass and mitered edges. Some retail listings call it a 5-gallon tank with thicker glass. The UNS size guide gives 4.6 US gal and 5 mm, and those are the figures we use. A leveling mat is included, and UNS glass lids are sold separately. With this little water, parameters change quickly, so top off evaporation often and test regularly.

The LANDEN 30C is a 30 x 30 x 30 cm (11.8 in) cube holding 6.6 US gal (about 25 L), with 5 mm low-iron glass. It comes with an EVA foam leveling mat. LANDEN sells a fitted 4 mm glass lid separately. A cube can be viewed from more than one side, but it gives you less front-to-back depth than a longer tank does.
40 to 45 cm tanks
- Best for
- A first planted aquascape bigger than a nano but smaller than 60 cm.
- Skip this if
- You have room for a 60 cm tank and want more water.
- External dimensions
- 17.7" W x 11.8" D x 11.8" H (45 x 30 x 30 cm)

- Not included; fitted 4 mm glass lid sold separately
- 10 US gal in a 45 cm footprint that fits counters and shelves.

- Only 30 cm tall.
The 45P measures 45 x 30 x 30 cm (17.7 x 11.8 x 11.8 in) and holds 10 US gal (about 38 L), with 5 mm glass and an EVA foam leveling mat. Amazon's dimension data lists the depth as 10.63 in, but LANDEN states 11.8 in (30 cm), so we use the maker's figure. The 30 cm height works with modest lights and is easy to reach into for planting.
- Best for
- A compact 45 cm planted tank where you want extra height.
- Skip this if
- You want a shallow, wide carpet layout.
- External dimensions
- 45 x 28 x 36 cm (17.71 x 11.02 x 14.17 in)
- Volume
- 45.3 L (11.9 US gal)
- Glass thickness
- 5 mm
- Glass
- Low-iron, 91% Diamant glass
- Edges
- 45-degree precision-cut mitered edges
- Leveling mat
- Included (protective rubber or polyurethane mat)
- Lid
- Not included; UNS glass lids sold separately
- 36 cm height (taller than the 45U) in a small footprint for vertical layouts.
- Low-iron glass with mitered edges; leveling mat included.
- Narrow 28 cm depth limits foreground-to-background depth.
- Lid sold separately.
The UNS 45T measures 45 x 28 x 36 cm (17.71 x 11.02 x 14.17 in) and holds 45.3 L (11.9 US gal), with 5 mm glass. It's 6 cm taller than the 45P but 2 cm shallower front to back. That suits vertical stem groups and taller rockwork, though the narrower depth gives you less room to build perspective.
- Best for
- A centrepiece cube scape that will be seen from several sides.
- Skip this if
- You want a long, front-facing layout.
- External dimensions
- 40 x 40 x 40 cm (15.74 x 15.74 x 15.74 in)
- Volume
- 64 L (16.9 US gal)
- Glass thickness
- 6 mm
- Glass
- Low-iron, 91% Diamant glass
- Edges
- 45-degree precision-cut mitered edges
- Leveling mat
- Included (protective rubber or polyurethane mat)
- Lid
- Not included; UNS glass lids sold separately
- Cube shape that can be viewed from several sides.
- 6 mm low-iron glass with mitered edges; leveling mat included.
- A 40 cm-tall cube makes planting and maintenance at the back harder.
- Lid sold separately.
The 40C is a 40 x 40 x 40 cm (15.74 in) cube holding 64 L (16.9 US gal), with 6 mm glass. Its 40 cm height makes it harder to plant and maintain the back corners, so plan on long tools. It also needs a light strong enough for that water depth.
60 cm tanks
- Best for
- A low, wide planted layout or carpet-focused scape.
- Skip this if
- You want height for stem plants or tall hardscape.
- External dimensions
- 60 x 36 x 18 cm (23.62 x 14.17 x 7.08 in)
- Volume
- 38.8 L (10.2 US gal)
- Glass thickness
- 5 mm
- Glass
- Low-iron, 91% Diamant glass
- Edges
- 45-degree precision-cut mitered edges
- Leveling mat
- Included (protective rubber or polyurethane mat)
- Lid
- Not included; UNS glass lids sold separately
- Large 60 x 36 cm footprint but only 18 cm tall, suited to carpets and emersed layouts.
- Low-iron glass with mitered edges; leveling mat included.
- Fits the UNS glass stands made for 60 cm tanks.
- Only 7.08 in tall, which limits hardscape height and fish choice.
- Lid sold separately.
The 60S is a shallow tank: 60 x 36 x 18 cm (23.62 x 14.17 x 7.08 in) and 38.8 L (10.2 US gal), with 5 mm glass. The wide footprint and low water column suit carpets and emersed-style layouts. UNS points out that the shallow depth makes it harder to place filter intakes, outflows and heaters, so plan your equipment before you build the hardscape. It fits UNS glass stands made for 60 cm tanks.
- Best for
- A first or classic 60 cm planted aquascape.
- Skip this if
- You want more front-to-back depth; the 60H is 45 cm deep.

- Volume
- 16 US gal (about 61 L)
- Glass thickness
- 6 mm
- Glass
- Low-iron (ultra-white) glass, over 91% light transmittance
- Leveling mat
- EVA foam leveling mat included
- Lid
- Not included; fitted 4 mm glass lid sold separately
- Classic 60 x 30 x 36 cm size that most 60 cm lights and lids fit.
- 6 mm low-iron glass; leveling mat included.
- Lid sold separately.
- Modest 16 US gal for a 60 cm-wide tank.
The 60P is the classic 60 x 30 x 36 cm (23.6 x 11.8 x 14.2 in) size, holding 16 US gal (about 61 L), with 6 mm glass. Because this is such a common size, most 60 cm lights and lids are made to fit it. The leveling mat is included. LANDEN sells a fitted 4 mm glass lid separately. Amazon lists the model as 111004, while LANDEN's own SKU is SD603036. The title, size and volume match.

- Volume
- 17.11 US gal

- 6 mm
- Glass
- Low-iron ultra-clear glass
- Edges
- 45-degree beveled edges, high-precision cut, bonded with clear silicone

- 23.62 x 11.81 x 14.17 in footprint, close to the common 60 x 30 x 36 cm size.
- 6 mm low-iron glass with 45-degree beveled edges; insulation pad included.
- No lid listed in the box.
- The maker's page gives few installation details.
The Lifegard Crystal (R460010) measures 23.62 x 11.81 x 14.17 in and holds 17.11 US gal, with 6 mm low-iron glass and 45-degree beveled edges bonded with clear silicone. An insulation pad is included, and no lid is listed. Lifegard's page gives few installation details beyond that. Follow general rimless practice: use a level stand rated for the load, with the pad underneath.
Taller and deeper 60 cm tanks
- Best for
- A 60 cm-wide planted tank with tall hardscape or a stem-plant background.
- Skip this if
- Your light is too weak for a 45 cm-deep water column.
- External dimensions
- 60 x 36 x 45 cm (23.62 x 14.17 x 17.71 in)
- Volume
- 97.2 L (25.6 US gal)
- Glass thickness
- 6 mm
- Glass
- Low-iron, 91% Diamant glass
- Edges
- 45-degree precision-cut mitered edges
- Leveling mat
- Included (protective rubber or polyurethane mat)
- Lid
- Not included; UNS glass lids sold separately
- 45 cm height leaves room for tall stem plants and vertical hardscape.
- 6 mm low-iron glass with mitered edges; leveling mat included.
- A 17.71 in-tall tank needs a stronger light to reach the substrate.
- Lid sold separately.
The 60T measures 60 x 36 x 45 cm (23.62 x 14.17 x 17.71 in) and holds 97.2 L (25.6 US gal), with 6 mm glass. The 45 cm height leaves room for a stem-plant background, but you'll need a light that can reach the substrate at that depth. See how to choose planted aquarium lighting.
- Best for
- A 60 cm-wide planted tank with deep perspective and tall hardscape.
- Skip this if
- Your stand or light is sized for a standard 60 x 30 cm tank.
- External dimensions
- 23.6" W x 17.7" D x 17.7" H (60 x 45 x 45 cm)
- Volume
- About 30 US gal (about 112 L)
- Glass thickness
- 8 mm
- Glass
- Low-iron (ultra-white) glass, over 91% light transmittance
- Leveling mat
- Black nano foam leveling mat included
- Lid
- Not included; fitted 4 mm glass lid sold separately
- 45 cm depth and height leave room for layered, vertical layouts.
- 8 mm low-iron glass; leveling mat included.
- A 17.7 in-tall tank needs a stronger light.
- About 30 US gal of water, so it needs a stand rated for that load.
The 60H is 60 x 45 x 45 cm (23.6 x 17.7 x 17.7 in) and holds about 30 US gal (about 112 L), with 8 mm glass and a black nano foam leveling mat. The 45 cm depth gives the most front-to-back room for layered layouts in this list. It also holds the most water of any tank in this list, so your stand needs to be rated for that load. LANDEN sells a fitted 4 mm glass lid separately.
Alternatives and when to skip buying
If you keep fish that jump and can't fit a lid, a framed tank with a matching hood may be the safer choice. If your current tank is level, sound and the size you want, a rimless upgrade mostly changes the look, not how well plants grow. Budget for the stand, light, filter and lid along with the tank. You can compare more options on the Rimless tanks: what to check before you buy ↗ hub, or match a tank to your plans with the setup finder.
How we chose
Each tank was matched to its Amazon listing by the maker's model name and size. Dimensions, volumes and glass thickness come from manufacturer documentation, and where a listing disagreed, we used the maker's figure. Only tanks rated 4 stars or higher on Amazon when we checked made the list. We looked at fit before anything else: footprint, height, and the leveling and support guidance each maker provides. We haven't tested these tanks hands-on, and we don't rank or score them.
