FZONE Pro vs UNS Mini: Which Dual Stage CO2 Regulator Fits Your Cylinder?

The FZONE Pro and UNS Mini dual stage CO2 regulators compared on cylinder fit, published specs, solenoid, included parts, and what else you need.

The short answer

Start with the cylinder you plan to use. The FZONE Pro (FZ-2020Pro) has a CGA320 inlet for North American CO2 cylinders, and FZONE does not state compatibility with paintball or soda cylinders for this model. The UNS Mini is stated by UNS to work with standard CGA-320 cylinders, paintball cylinders, or UNS disposable cartridges. Beyond cylinder fit, FZONE publishes far more detail (solenoid, safety valve, gauges, package contents), while UNS publishes few specifications. Both are dual stage, and both need a cylinder, diffuser, and CO2-resistant tubing bought separately.

What we compared

Both are dual stage regulators aimed at planted tank CO2 injection. We compared them on what decides whether a regulator works with your setup:

  • Cylinder connection. Which cylinders each maker states the regulator fits.
  • Published specifications. Solenoid, safety valve, needle valve, and gauges, where the maker lists them.
  • Package contents. What comes in the box and what you still need to buy.
  • Timer control. Whether CO2 can be switched on and off with the lights.
  • Fit for the tank. A full-size cylinder build or a compact desktop setup.

All details come from the manufacturers' pages, listed under Sources. We have not tested either regulator hands-on.

Choose the FZONE Pro if

  • You will run a standard North American CO2 cylinder. The inlet is CGA320, the common valve on full-size CO2 cylinders sold in the US and Canada.
  • You want CO2 on a timer. FZONE states the 12V DC solenoid is compatible with automatic timers, so CO2 can switch off with the lights. See our timers guide for scheduling.
  • You want published safety and control specs. FZONE lists a safety valve that releases above 100 PSI, an integrated needle valve, and dual 1.6-inch gauges.
  • You want to know exactly what is in the box. FZONE lists the regulator, 2 bubble counters, and installation tools.

Our FZONE Pro review covers this model in more depth.

Choose the UNS Mini if

  • You want to use paintball cylinders or UNS cartridges. UNS states the Mini works with standard CGA-320 cylinders, paintball cylinders, or UNS disposable cartridges. That flexibility suits a small desktop or nano tank where a full-size cylinder is impractical.
  • You may change cylinder type later. Starting on a small cylinder and moving to a CGA-320 cylinder is possible according to UNS's compatibility statement. Confirm which adapters are actually included before you buy: the retail listing title names a CGA 320 to paintball adapter, but UNS does not publish the package contents.
  • A dual stage design with a failsafe matters to you in a compact package, and you are comfortable with fewer published specifications.

When neither is right

  • You plan to stay low-tech. Neither regulator is needed without injected CO2. Our low-tech vs high-tech guide helps you decide.
  • You want to use a soda-maker cylinder. FZONE does not state soda-cylinder compatibility for this model, and UNS does not mention soda-maker cylinders. Do not assume either fits.
  • You need several outputs. Neither record describes a manifold for running more than one tank from one regulator.
  • You want every specification published before buying. The UNS Mini's solenoid, gauge, pressure, and contents details are not on the UNS page, so it may not suit this need.

Compatibility and maintenance differences

What else you need. For both, plan to buy a CO2 cylinder that matches the inlet, a CO2 diffuser, and CO2-resistant tubing. Neither maker lists these in the package. Browse parts on the CO2 systems: what to check before you buy ↗ hub or in our CO2 regulator picks.

Cylinder fit, stated exactly. The FZONE Pro's inlet is CGA320 for North American CO2 cylinders. FZONE does not state compatibility with paintball or soda cylinders for this model. UNS states the Mini is compatible with standard CGA-320 cylinders, paintball cylinders, and UNS disposable cartridges. Soda-maker cylinders are not mentioned.

Timer control. The FZONE Pro's 12V DC solenoid can be run from a plug-in timer, according to FZONE. UNS does not publish solenoid details for the Mini, so check before planning a timed setup.

Model identity. The UNS model number CO2J004 comes from the retail listing; UNS does not publish a part number on its CO2 page.

Routine care. Check the bubble counter level, confirm the bubble rate after any cylinder change, and inspect tubing for cracks or hardening. Our CO2 system guide covers leak checks and setting the rate.

How we chose

  • Same job, different cylinder approach. Both are dual stage regulators for planted tanks, and the choice usually comes down to the cylinder you plan to run.
  • Specifications from the manufacturers' pages, listed in the sources. Where a maker does not publish a detail, we say so rather than fill the gap.
  • Identity confirmed against the retail listing for each exact model.
  • Research-based. We have not tested these regulators hands-on. There are no scores or rankings, and neither wins outright.
